With the rapid rise of manual laser welding in the metal processing industry, there is also a significant demand for automated systems. For this reason, we have joined forces with our partners to develop a robotic laser welding cell that can be easily implemented.
Last year, we introduced a robot cell for laser welding small workpieces. However, this type of welding cell is scalable and can also be delivered in larger dimensions, making it suitable for larger workpieces.
Why use a robot for laser welding?
Laser welding offers significant advantages over arc welding processes for certain applications. When working with production series, equipping a robot with a laser welding system can greatly improve efficiency.
The investment required for a laser welding system is not much higher than that for an arc welding robot.
Advantages
High welding speeds
Minimal distortion
Reduced discoloration
Clean weld appearance without spatter
Laser welding robot package for integrators
For robotic laser welding, LAZRZ offers a Robot Package. This robot includes the essential hardware needed for laser welding with a robot. Our LAZRZ Robot Laser Welding Package can easily communicate with the robot controller. The welding parameters can either be retrieved by the robot system or controlled via the robot controller. The robot package is available in 1500W, 2000W, and 3000W configurations.
The system is delivered in a 19” rack and consists of:
Laser welding source
Water chiller
Welding head
Electrical control unit
Display
Communication
Communication between the robot and the laser welding system takes place over Ethernet. Through this communication, jobs can be retrieved, or welding parameters can be individually controlled. The robot system can configure the welding parameters in two ways:
Pre-stored welding programs in the laser system’s memory can be retrieved by the robot.
The robot can communicate welding parameters directly to the laser system via Ethernet.
Laser welding cell for robots
In collaboration with Yaskawa / Roboflex, we have developed a welding cell for robotic laser welding. This welding cell can be delivered in various sizes, depending on product size and other requirements. During the welding process, the cell is fully enclosed, eliminating the need for personal protective equipment when operating the laser welding system.
